Reading Time: 5 minutes

I love sleeping masks (also known as sleeping packs). I have been a huge fan of sleeping masks for many years and majority of the sleeping masks I use tend to be from Korean brands. These are the easiest types of masks to use. They keep my skin hydrated as I sleep thru the night when my skin is in need of a deep soak. For a quick skin boost, I wear it for 10 minutes and wash off. Most sleeping masks are very fast absorbing due to its texture, leaving skin brighter, smoother, and hydrated. I generally use 2x a week, during the winter season I’ve been using more frequently. I’ve been using the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask for several months which I purchased at Sephora and I am very excited to share my thoughts on this mask with you.

What is it
The Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is a luxuriously bouncy, breathable sleeping mask that smoothes and perfects skin, overnight.

It is good to know that Glow Recipe skincare is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. This product is formulated without synthetic dyes, mineral oils and is paraben free. That’s great news for me! The outer packaging is very cute throughout the box including watermelon prints on the inside. The jar itself is visually pink eye candy. Will look great on my vanity. The jar packaging isn’t my favorite due to sanitary reasons. The curved glass jar makes it easy to grip when opening the lid. The scent smells like fresh watermelons or a bit like watermelon jolly rancher candy. The scent does not bother me but will be an issue for those who are sensitive to fragrances.

Glow Recipe let me ask you, do you need the added fragrance? If you remove the fragrance, does it alter the mask’s formulation? If not, just remove it, the product will stand out on it’s own merit.

In the jar, the mask looks pink but on my hand it’s very light pink to almost translucent. The texture is very gelatinous, due to that some separation may occur in the jar. Instructions say to use the included spatula and stir for a full minute till it becomes a gel-like texture. This spatual is a bit dinky, so I use a slightly larger spatula with a wider spoon mouth that was included from some other product to get the stirring part done in like 30 seconds. Sorry, but time matters to me!

A nice little spoonful is enough to smear all over my face. If you want to be less messy, you can brush onto face using a facial brush. With 2.7oz of product in the jar, this will take quite some time to use up. Again, due to the gelatinous texture, you don’t need a whole lot of product on your face. Upon application, this absorbed fairly well on my skin. At first It comes off looking really oily but it isn’t oily. My face does look slick but as it absorbs my face begins to feel soft and silky. No transfers on my pillows/sheets.

To see if there was a difference on my skin’s appearance, I wore the Glow Recipe mask both ways as brand suggested:

Sleeping Mask –
In the evening I would apply two layers of the mask. After washing off in the morning, my skin felt pretty soft, smooth, and hydrated with subtle radiance. No dry patches.

Wash Off Mask –
In the evening I would apply one layer of the mask and wash off after 10 minutes. Skin felt very soft with a quick boost of hydration. The hydration didn’t last very long and skin felt very thirsty needing additional moisturizers to combat the hydration need.

I have read a few reviews from the Glow Recipe site where others mentioned the mask was peeling up. Sometimes I apply one layer and sometimes two layers and never experienced peeling. The instructions say to pat the product onto skin which is what I did. If you are rubbing the product into your skin like a lotion or if you apply too much at one time this mask will pill up and peel from your face.

Overall, I liked using this as a sleeping mask because my skin can fully benefit the hydration overnight. Love how the hyaluronic acid & AHA work to hydrate & smooth out my skin texture especially during the winter season. Both of these ingredients seem to be gentle around my eye area as I did not experience any irritations (I have normal to dry sensitive skin). Absorbs quickly into my skin without feeling sticky. It is a little bothersome that I have to stir this up with each use due to the separation but is a small annoyance. With the product being so gelatinous, Glow Recipe I suggest this product is more suitable if packaged in a bottle with a large pump. I really enjoyed using this and will include in my skincare routine along with other sleeping masks that I use on rotation. Although this jar will last me for a while, I would re-purchase again when I use up this jar.
