YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain’s are just a few items in my growing YSL collection. I love this brand, it is timeless and classy! The packaging is always beautiful. I own a number of their lipsticks and glosses and the formulas never disappoint. I like lip stains for their pigmentation and long wear, minus having to use a lip liner. Very happy to include the matte lip stains in my collection. Keep reading for the full review.

The packaging is absolutely gorgeous, frosted body with iconic gold YSL emblem. Looks very luxurious and very photo worthy for a high end product. Will look great on any vanity if you want to show them off.

The applicator is very interesting and different. It has a flat angled tip which allows you to make the most precise application in outlining your lips and the flat side to swipe the color on with ease. This I love, so I don’t have to use a lip liner. Plus, if the tip has too much product, I just scrap the tip against the inside of the bottle to remove the excess.

Top: 16 Nude Emblem Bottom: 1 Rouge Tatouage

YSL has some beautiful colors in this collection. All of the shades look amazing! My two favorite lip shades that I gravitate to on the daily are reds and pinky rose nudes. I purchased #1 Rouge Tatouage and #16 Nude Emblem.

1 Rouge Tatouge – When I want a nice bold red lip this is the red I go for. It’s a pink red that is very pigmented. With one layer it is pretty bold as is but if I want to do a gradient lip, I just do a few dabs on the lip and blend out with my fingers. It gives just the right amount of stain for that subtle pop of color.

16 Nude Emblem – This color is more of my everyday shade. It’s a rose nude shade that goes with whatever makeup look I am wearing. When worn lightly on the lips it makes my lips look natural and if I want a bold nude look I can intensify the color by painting on a full lip.

The consistency of this lip stain is water thin. I do give it a good shake before applying. With the angled flat tip I am able to apply a good thin layer on my lips. It spreads easily and goes on a bit translucent on the lips. As it begins to dry down to a matte finish, the color turns opaque. I do not have a need to apply a second layer because there are no streaks. With liquid lipsticks in general, once you start applying more than one layer you get that thick cakey texture.

Despite it being very liquidy, these shades are highly pigmented. Of all the lip stains I have tried, my most favorite are from YSL. They feel very comfortable and the product moves with my lips. This formula is long lasting as it does not transfer, even with eating/drinking it leaves a beautiful stain. With KVD and ABH, I feel the product scrunches down on my lips as though the product is slowly sucking out all the moisture from my lips and wrapping itself around my lip making it feel very uncomfortable.

I am very impressed with this formula and the application is great! Yes, this a pricey lippie but you won’t need to use a whole lot to product due to its liquidy consistency and high pigmentation. This lip stain hugs my lips in all the right places without making them look or feel dry during the day.
