It was a blessing that Olaplex released a hair repairing shampoo & conditioner earlier this summer at Sephora. I went in with high expectations and bought them both during the Sephora VIB sale. My hair goes through alot of stress. It gets bleached, colored, and lots of heat from curling irons/wands. For all these things that I am doing to my hair, more the reason why I consistently need to use products that will repair and treat (i.e masking, oils, leave in conditioners, repairing cleansers). I use these in conjunction with the Olaplex no 3 Hair Perfector, my holy grail.

What is it
The No. 4 repairs bonds while gently cleansing all types of hair. Impart moisture, strength, and manageability with every wash.

The No. 5 restores, repairs, and hydrates without adding excess weight. Eliminates damaged frizz for strong, healthy, shiny hair.

Claims
Repairs and maintains bonds within the hair, eliminates frizz and flyaways, reduces breakage

Available | Sephora | Nordstrom

Olaplex No 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner | 8.5oz, $28USD

The packaging comes in similar high quality minimalistic plastic bottle like the rest of the Olaplex line. You have to squeeze a bit hard to dispense the product so I usually turn the bottle upside down and have the product come to the opening. These bottles may seem rather small compared to a typical size shampoo & conditioner you normally get at the store. I’ll share more on this in just a bit.

Both the shampoo & conditioner are formulated with the same patented active ingredient “Bis-Aminoprophyl Diglycol Dimaleate” that work on a molecular level to glue back broken bonds in the hair that are caused by over processing and thermal styling. Olaplex is formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates.

There is a light refreshing scent that smells nice, not in a fragranced kind of way. Both the shampoo & conditioner are highly concentrated. Since the formula is quite potent, the key is to use a small amount of product. Less is better! I’ve got long heavy thick hair and a nickel size amount of shampoo was all I need to lather up amazing foam. The conditioner is amazing. The texture is very thick and creamy, I dispense out just enough to apply on ends of hair and anywhere else that is prone to frizz. I use it right after shampoo and leave it on 5 minutes while I do my shower routine and then rinse out. The conditioner does not weigh down my hair.

Overall, hair feels shiny, smooth, and noticeably less frizzy. The shampoo gets the job done with removing oils & styling products without stripping away my color. I’m on the fence with the conditioner as my dry ends still feel dry and somewhat stripped of moisture but the rest of my hair which is healthy seems to be fine. No 3 Hair Perfector makes my dry ends look smooth and silky. I am also alternating in between uses with Kevin Murphy’s Repair Me Conditioner (a repairing conditioner) and it does a better job of moisturizing and bringing my dry ends back to life. Mean while I’ll continue to use up the Olaplex conditioner to see if my hair shows any signs of improvement.
